Usage & Storage
HOW SHOULD I MAKE THE SWITCH TO OLLIE FOOD?
Excellent question. First, you’re smart to ask this because not transitioning can lead to some upset bellies. We highly recommend following our transition guidelines so you give your dog’s stomach flora time to adjust to the new type of diet (imagine how your stomach would react if you ate the equivalent of cereal puffs every day and then had a steak!) It may take your dog’s digestive tract up to two weeks to adjust, especially if they have eaten kibble their entire life. Switching to real, fresh ingredients is a big shift, but it’s 100% better for their health in the long run.
HOW LONG WILL THE FOOD STAY FRESH AFTER IT’S DELIVERED?
We use special modified atmospheric packaging to seal our trays so they’re airtight and keep our food fresh, without using any preservatives or chemicals. After you put it in the refrigerator, the food will be good to serve your dog for up to 4 days opened or unopened. Always remember to put the Ollie resealable lid on your tray after you’ve opened it to preserve the freshness.
WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE ENOUGH ROOM IN MY FRIDGE TO STORE THE TRAYS?
Whether or not you have enough room, you can always stash our food in your freezer—just as you would your own food that you want to preserve for a longer period of time. All you have to do is put it in your fridge to defrost 24 hours before you want to feed it to your dog.
WHAT IF MY DOG DOESN’T LIKE IT?
One of the most awesome things about feeding your dog a healthy diet made with real ingredients is that they actually love eating it—unlike how a lot of humans feel about eating so-called healthy food. Not only does it taste delicious, but their bodies crave the quality fat and protein that comes from the real ingredients that are in Ollie. And we can personally attest to almost every type of dog (even the picky eaters!) devouring our food. However if your dog doesn’t like one of our recipes, we’ll happily send you another one or refund your trial box.
CAN I RECYCLE THE PACKAGING?
You sure can! All of our boxes and trays are made out of recyclable material (our trays also happen to make excellent planters if you want to upcycle them.) And our jute liner, which helps keep your dog’s food cold, is compostable too.
WHAT IF I NEED TO CHANGE AMOUNT OF FOOD?
All you have to do is login to your account and change your dog’s profile information, and we’ll update their recommended serving size accordingly. Or you can call us directly and someone on our customer service team will help you sort it out.
WHAT IF MY DOG GETS SICK AFTER EATING THE FOOD?
With any food switch, there’s a chance that your pup’s stomach will get upset (if you ate the same thing every day and then suddenly changed, you’d probably have some gastro issues too!) That’s why we recommend transitioning over a ten day period, and give you specific recommendations for how to do that in the welcome kit that comes in your first box. If your dog has unusually soft or runny #2 for more than a few days, contact your vet as you would normally. And wash your dog’s bowl at least once a day to make sure there’s no icky bacteria in there that could make your pup sick.
